  • India produces the most volume and variety of spices than any other country in the world

  • Some of the main ingredients in Indian food, including potato, tomato and chilli, aren't of Indian origin! They were in-fact brought in by the Portuguese.

  • The world famous Chicken Tikka Masala doesn't originate in India - It was invented in Glasgow!

  • Rice is the most common accomplice of curry in India

  • Naan bread is commonly associated with the Indian Cuisine, however, it was first made in Persia

  • The largest naan bread ever made was 3.79m long and 1.4m wide, and weighed a whopping 26kg

  • India is home to one of the hottest chillies used in curries in the world - the 'Bhut Jolokia'

  • The first curry recipe in English appeared in Hannah Glasse’s The Art Of Cookery in 1747
